Electronic Tools for New IU Employees

As a new employee or an IU employee in a new job, there are many electronic tools available to you.

Important tools are Direct Deposit, View Paycheck, Personal Information, W-2 and W-4 tax information online. These are all available in the Employee Center in OneStart. To learn how to navigate in OneStart go to OneStart Navigation.

Once you log into OneStart, click on the Employee Center button in the left navigational bar. The Employee Center screen offers an array of options for you to review or to update as needed. As a new employee you need to learn where the following tools are:

1. Online Payroll Direct Deposit

If you did not sign up for direct deposit of your paycheck via paper form when you were hired, please visit OneStart and set this up. If you have already set up your direct deposit, the online system allows you to make modifications as needed to your direct deposit account(s). Under Payroll Information click on the Direct Deposit link to get to the Direct Deposit Services page. Click on the Payroll button after reading the statement below it.

You should now see a window titled Direct Deposit followed by your name directly underneath

To find instructions on setting up your direct deposit account, click on the HELP link in the Direct Deposit pop-up screen.

2. Online View Paycheck and View Payroll Year-To-Date Totals

You can use OneStart to review your paycheck online as IU has eliminated paper notifications. The online view displays the complete breakdown or your current and previous IU paychecks. On the Employee Center page, go to the Payroll Information section. You can click on View Paycheck or View Payroll YTD Totals.

3. Electronic W-2 Tax Statement

In association with W-2 eXpress, Indiana University offers electronic delivery of your W-2.Not only is your W2 available 10 days before a paper W2 is available, you do not have to worry about the possibility of it being sent to an old street address, and it downloads into popular tax software. Signing up for this service is voluntary. If you do not sign up for electronic delivery of your W-2, it will be mailed to your home address listed in the Personal Information section. To consent for electronic delivery, click on the W-2 Home link in the Tax Information section. You can sign up for this service any time after your first paycheck, so don't wait!

4. Electronic W-4 Tax Form

Self Service Federal Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate (W-4) will allow employees to update their federal allowances, additional withholding, marital status and exemption status electronically through OneStart. The W-4 form is filled out for new employment (or when your tax situation changes) for determining how much money is withheld for federal income taxes. Access the W-4 form in the Tax Information section in the OneStart Employee Center. Click on Update Federal Tax Withholding (W-4) to access the W-4 Tax Information page where you update your tax information
