Special Issue: The FIS Conversion

See the FIS Conversion Center with up-to-the-minute updates on the conversion

After a year of planning, developing, and testing, FMS will be migrating the Financial Information System [FIS] to a new database in early June. This migration is a part of an IU's Strategic Directions plan to integrate several systems, including the FIS. In addition to enhanced connectivity, the new FIS database will enable further improvements in the future, including the use of images, e.g., scans of financial documents. Above all, FMS is committed to ensuring that IU's financial system continues to operate with the highest levels of accuracy and integrity. See Viewpoint for more on the migration.

FIS Availability and Other General Information
About the Migration

The following information applies to all components and/or users of the FIS system throughout the conversion.

  • The system will be shut down at 5:30 Eastern Standard Time on June 2, 2000, and will come back up on June 12, 2000 at 6:00 a.m. EST.
  • The FIS interface will not change, so the migration will be invisible to users.
  • The Financial Data Retrieval System [FDRS] on the Web will be available during conversion week, with a frozen snapshot of data taken on June 2, 2000. The FDRS may experience a slower response time during the conversion period.
  • Monthly reports will be available during conversion week in the Reports Viewer.

For more specific information about planning for the FIS Conversion, see frequently asked questions as well as the component-specific information listed below. See also the FIS Conversion memo to all account managers, deans, directors, and department heads sent out in April.
