Overview of FDRS to IUIE migration

FDRS Final Retirement on August 1st, 2007

The final retirement of the main FDRS services is now nearing completion. Many steps have already been completed toward this goal, including:
  • Retirement of all PDQs from the FDRS
  • Links to IUIE equivalent report objects for all Datagroups and Reports Viewer objects from FDRS index pages
  • Move of Salary Viewer link to FMS home page
  • Disabling FDRS registration page, preventing any new users from registering from FDRS
  • Migration of many FMS applications towards CAS authentication and/or integration with IUIE
On August 1st 2007, the following changes to the FDRS will be made:
  • Removal of link to FDRS from FMS home page
  • Redirect links on FDRS home page to point to most appropriate locations within IUIE master catalog.
  • Redirect access attempts to FDRS standard reports to point to IUIE equivalents
  • Redirect access attempts to FDRS datagroups to point to IUIE equivalents
  • Bookmarks to pages in the FDRS Reports viewer will only provide links to the IUIE based versions of the reports.

Retiring FDRS PDQs

The retirement of FDRS PDQs has been completed. All FDRS PDQs are now ONLY available in the IUIE.

New Column in FDRS DataDirect and Reports Viewer to access IUIE

DataDirect and the Reports Viewer in the FDRS now include an additional column that allows direct access to the equivalent report object in the IUIE. The IUIE and FDRS both provide access the the same underlying tables and reports. To ease the transition to using the IUIE, this new column is an effort to make it simpler to find reports in the IUIE.

New datagroups and enhancements to existing datagroups are only being made in the IUIE.

Updated IUIE Interface

On April 24, 2003, the IUIE received an complete overhaul of its user interface. All current core functionality is still included in the IUIE, and many issues with the old IUIE interface have been resolved.

Updated IUIE training information and release notes describing the new version of IUIE are now available.

New Column in FDRS Predefined Queries to assist with locating IUIE PDQs:

The FDRS Predefined Query environment now includes an additional column that will allow direct access to the IUIE version of each Predefined Query. With significant progress in the migration of PDQs into the IUIE, all PDQs are now available in the IUIE natively.

Detailed overview of IUIE functionality

The DSS team has put together a detailed overview describing most of the functionality available within the IUIE. Most of the examples in the overview are of Financial report objects.

The FDRS will be migrating to the IUIE:

To provide for a more comprehensive enterprise reporting environment, most of the institutional reports currently in the Financial Data Retrieval System (FDRS) will be migrated to the IU Information Environment (IUIE). Once this migration process is complete, the FDRS will be taken out of service and users directed to the IUIE. Most existing FDRS reports have already been setup within the IUIE, and will continue to be available in both the FDRS and IUIE until the migration effort is completed.

Most of the current FDRS reports are already available in the Financial folder of the IUIE. We encourage you to try out this new reporting environment now. We think you will find a great similarity between the FDRS and the IUIE, and we hope this helps with the transition.

For those of you who haven't heard about the IUIE:

The IUIE is a centrally maintained web-based decision support application that is developed and supported by the UITS Decision Support Services (DSS) team. The IUIE provides a collection of reports, tools and information to assist the university in providing access to institutional data. It will contain information on a wide variety of data categories, including financial, human resources, student as well as others. The goal is to provide the institution with a single repository of institutional data and reporting tools.

What username do I use to access the IUIE?

To facilitate the migration effort, IUIE accounts have been created for all active FDRS users. The IUIE now uses the Central Authentication Service (CAS) instead of IU logon. You need to use your network ID and password to authenticate with CAS.

For more information about CAS, see the CAS Login Help.

How to I learn how to use the IUIE?

A detailed tutorial for the IUIE is available by going to the IUIE home page and clicking on the Tutorial icon in the top right corner of the page. You can also access the IUIE Tutorial by going to this web address:
https://www.indiana.edu/~iuie/prod/tutorial/home.phtml.
In addition to the tutorial, the IUIE offers extensive on-line help, with answers to many common questions.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the IUIE by sending an email to iuie-request@indiana.edu, or by using the 'Feedback' option in the IUIE application itself. For any problems accessing and using the Financial Report Objects, please contact fmshelp@indiana.edu.

More information to follow:

We will be updating this page periodically with additional information about the FDRS to IUIE migration over the next several months. We will be alerting you to general sessions we plan on holding on several campuses to talk about the migration and answer questions about the IUIE. Until that time, please take a look at the IUIE by pointing your browser to: https://onestart.iu.edu/ie and getting to know the IUIE.
